Argentina Wins World Cup in Dramatic Penalty Shootout

Messi-Led Team Triumphs After Thrilling Final

Argentina emerged victorious in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, defeating defending champions France 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a gripping 3-3 draw.

Lionel Messi, who scored two goals in the final, captained Argentina to its third World Cup title and first since 1986. France, led by Kylian Mbappe's hat-trick, pushed Argentina to the limit, but ultimately fell short in the tense penalty shootout.

The match, played at Qatar's Lusail Stadium, saw both teams display their attacking prowess and resilience. Argentina took an early lead but France fought back, with Mbappe scoring twice to level the game.

In extra time, Messi scored his second goal to give Argentina the lead again, but Mbappe completed his hat-trick to force the game into a penalty shootout. Argentina's goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, saved two of France's penalties, while Gonzalo Montiel converted the winning spot-kick.
